Andrea Love

President & Chief Executive Officer

Andrea Love is the President & Chief Executive Officer of Legacy Private Trust. She is a qualified Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP). Andrea manages the Trust, Corporate Accounting and Human Resources departments. In addition, Andrea works closely with the Sales & Marketing department on various business development initiatives. Andrea obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Victoria and her Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University. She is a certified Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) and is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT). Andrea has volunteered as a trustee of the Bill 7 Award Trust, been the treasurer of the LBGT Giving Network, a member of the charity golf tournament committee of the Ontario Association of Cemetery and Funeral Professionals and was a director and member of the finance and governance committees for the Funeral Services Association of Canada. Andrea is a regular contributor to the Huffington Post and other publications.

Carolyn E. Love

Vice President, Legal, Chief Compliance Officer and Indigenous Trusts Lead

Carolyn is a tax, trusts and estates lawyer who helps individuals, families, and fiduciaries navigate complex trust and estate matters with confidence. Called to the Ontario Bar in 2006, she advises on trust and estate administration, powers of attorney for property, and guardianships, working closely with trustees and their advisors to find clear, practical solutions.

She has extensive experience drafting, reviewing and administering trust deeds, wills, powers of attorney and management plans, including complex discretionary trusts. Carolyn regularly represents fiduciaries in court applications involving appointments, removals and passings of accounts, and collaborates closely with legal and accounting professionals to achieve effective outcomes.

As Chief Compliance Officer at Legacy Private Trust, Carolyn works with the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) and provincial regulators to ensure the company meets its regulatory obligations and manages risk responsibly, safeguarding its financial strength, integrity and security.

In her role as Indigenous Trusts Lead, Carolyn partners with Indigenous communities to support sustainable intergenerational wealth and to help build long-term financial and trust capacity.

Carolyn earned her law degree from Western University after completing an honours degree in Political Science and Philosophy at McGill University. She is a member of the Law Society of Ontario and is actively involved with professional organizations such as the Canadian Bar Association, the Canadian Tax Foundation, and The Advocates’ Society. She also serves as a director and officer of several private charitable foundations, including the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation of Canada and the Legacy Private Trust Foundation.

Yevgeniya Romanchenko

Chief Financial Officer & Chief Investment Officer

Yevgeniya joined Legacy Private Trust in 2008. She is now the Company’s Chief Investment Officer and Chief Financial Officer. Before joining our team, Yevgeniya developed her skills working at several wealth management firms. Prior to this she obtained the bachelor’s degree in Physical and Biomedical Electronics from the National University of Ukraine. Yevgeniya has a diploma with honours in Financial Planning Management and received the CFA charter in 2012.

Anne M. Sado

Director, Chair

Anne holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Industrial Engineering and a Master of Business Administration, both from the University of Toronto. She is a member of Professional Engineers Ontario, and she completed the Executive Development Program at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, Chicago.


Anne is President Emeritus, George Brown College. She held the position of President of the College from January 2004 to August 2021. Anne’s professional career also included over 25 years at Bell Canada, where she held numerous positions in operations, business planning, business development, finance and customer care. Anne is currently a Director of the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Group.

Anne was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in June 2013. She was recognized as one of Canada’s Top 25 Women of Influence in 2014, a YWCA Woman of Distinction in 2012 and one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women by WXN over four years, leading to her induction in the WXN Hall of Fame in 2014. She was inducted as a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering in 2015, inducted into the University of Toronto’s prestigious Engineering Hall of Distinction in 2010 and awarded the Ontario Professional Engineers Gold Medal in 2007. She has also received the Queen’s Diamond and Golden Jubilee Medals, the Professional Engineers Ontario Citizenship Award, and an Arbor Award from the University of Toronto. Anne was also awarded a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, from the University of Toronto in June 2011.

James B. Love, K.C.

Director, Vice-Chair

Jim completed his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science at McGill University prior to attending Osgoode Hall Law School. He also obtained his Master of Laws in Taxation Law from Osgoode Hall. Created Queen’s Counsel in 1992, Jim practises in the areas of federal and provincial income tax, federal and provincial sales taxes and other taxes, acquisitions, mergers, corporate reorganizations, estate planning, wills, trusts and estates.


He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. He was the chair of the Minister of Finance’s Expert Panel on Financial Security for Children with Severe Disabilities and was also a member of the Minister of Finance’s Panel on Canada’s International Tax System. Jim was first appointed to the Royal Canadian Mint’s Board of Directors in 2006, as Chair of the Governance and Nominating Committee and served as Vice-Chairman of the Board. Jim was then appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2009 for a five-year term. In 2010 Jim received the York University Environmental Studies Friend of the Faculty Award for his dedication to the environment and sustainability. He also received the Bryden Alumni Award for Outstanding Contribution, also from York University.

Jim is a Founder, Director, Vice-Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Legacy Private Trust and a founding partner of the Love & Whalen Law Firm where he currently practises. He is also a director of a number of commercial corporations as well as a number of charitable foundations.

Ross V. Whalen

Director

Ross completed his undergraduate degree in Arts and Science at Queen’s University prior to completing his Bachelor of Laws at Queen’s. Ross practises in the areas of corporate law, estate planning, trusts and estates, charity and not-for-profit law, and taxation law. He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Ontario Bar Association and the Canadian Bar Association (Taxation and Trusts & Estates Sections).


Ross is a Founder and Director of Legacy Private Trust and a founding partner of Love & Whalen Law Firm where he currently practises.

Peter W. Westaway, CFA

Director

Peter has been in the investment, finance and insurance businesses for 45 years. Peter was Vice President of Estate, Trust and Agency Investments at National Trust Company; Chief Investment Officer and Chief Financial Officer at Commercial Union Assurance Company; and President and Chairman of the Board of Directors at CGU Investment Management Canada Limited.


At Legacy Private Trust, Peter is the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Investment Officer.

D. Ross Kerr

Director

Ross has over 25 years of experience in management consulting with a focus on operational issues related to governance, organizational structure, process design, workforce management and customer and employee experience. In addition to being a Director at Legacy Private Trust, he is currently the Managing Director of Strathfield Consultants Ltd., an investor in and advisor to Ontario small businesses.

A Certified Human Resources Professional, Ross completed his Master of Business Administration at Wilfred Laurier University, his Master of Human Resource Management (Distinguished) at Rutgers University in New Jersey, U.S.A and his Bachelor of Arts at University of King’s College in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Ross’s career includes over 15 years of experience at Deloitte Canada, where he became Partner and developed the firm’s insurance consulting practice. He has extensive experience consulting on major business integration and restructuring projects.

Ross is a Board Member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and a coach and trainer of the Leaside Wildcats Hockey and North Toronto Hockey Associations.

Katherine L. Smalley

Director

Katherine is the President and Founder of Allied Capital Corporation (1988), a boutique investment bank which provides corporate finance services to public and private growth companies in Canada and internationally. After graduating from McGill University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and philosophy, Katherine joined the research department of the investment banking firm Pitfield McKay Ross Ltd. (now RBC Dominion Securities).

Katherine’s background includes being a very successful producer and director for 18 years for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. She was recognized for her award-winning, investigative primetime documentary series, “Man Alive” and other documentary specials.

Katherine serves on the Board of the Ontario Arts Foundation, Soundstreams Canada, The Friends of the McGill Library and the Chancellor’s Committee. Katherine is a Fellow of The Royal Canadian Geographic Society, a member of the Order of St. Lazarus, a charity for palliative care, and Healing Hands India, a private charity.
